Gas Furnace Repair

To fix this financial things that break that you know how it works to what can go wrong, how to identify the problem and the steps to repair it. Here's what you need repairs to know about gas stove.

How does it work?

Natural or propane gas from an external source of heat in the furnace led to where it is produced burned. Normally, a fan-driven forced-air distribution blows the warmed air through channels thatvent in the different rooms of the house. Older gas furnaces with a standing pilot ignition. Maintenance includes the pilot off each spring and fall it ignites. Newer, more efficient use of gas stoves, an electric spark to light the gas as necessary.

What can go wrong?

Most gas stoves are very reliable. What are the symptoms of problems? The oven does not heat or produceHeat to produce not enough. The light can go over and over again or refuse to light. The thermocouple may be defective. The pilot light can not ignite the burner. The oven can be loud. There are a few minor repairs and maintenance, can make. However, important services are left to a professional.

Fix-It Tip

To minimize problems with your gas stove, take some time to filter every month, check and clean or replace air whennecessary. Once a year, clean the fan blades, lubricate the blower motor and check the belt.

How can I identify the problem?

If there is no heat, check the electrical service panel for a fuse or circuit breaker trigger burning. Relight the pilot (see below).

If it is not enough heat, adjust the burner air slide (see below), and clean the burner ports (see below).

If the warning light is not lit or not lit, stay cleanPilot nozzle carefully with a toothpick, you test the thermocouple and replace it if it is defective (see below).

If the flame flickers, adjust the pilot (see below).

If there is an exploding sound when the burner ignites, adjust the pilot to a higher level and clean the pilot orifice and the burner ports.

If the burner takes more than a few seconds to ignite, clean the pilot orifice and adjust the pilot flame.

If the burner flame is uneven, clean the burner ports. If theBurner flame is very yellow, clean the burner vents in the furnace room in the air more, setting the burner air shutter.

If the furnace makes a rumbling noise when the burners are turned off, clean the burner and adjust the burner air shutter.

When the air is too dry wash or replace the evaporator pad, if you have a humidifier, test the moisture sensor, and adjust the water level float to raise the water.

If some rooms are too cool and others warm, whichDistribution system may require balancing. Refer to the Forced-Air Distribution Fix-It Guide to FixItClub.com

Fix-It Tip

Be sure that your filter is the right size for your stove.

What parts, materials and tools do I need?

Some spare parts for gas furnaces are interchangeable (filters, fasteners) and at your local hardware store. Others, such as burners and controls, will be purchased from theManufacturer or supplier or aftermarket through a heating equipment listed in your local phone book.

The most important tools you need for the establishment of a gas stove, these include:

* Screwdrivers

* Wrenches

* Pliers

* Wire brush

* Multimeters

What are the steps to fix?

To light the pilot on a stand-pilot (always) ignition system, follow the instructions in the vicinity of the lighting control system is.Otherwise, try these steps:

Light of the pilot:

1st Press and hold the pilot knob to start the pilot. Turn the knob to the pilot position. Hold a long match at the Pilot gas connection.

2nd Press the control knob, the pilot should light. Hold down the control button until the flame burns bright (approximately 30 seconds). Release pressure on the knob and turn it to ON.

3rd If the pilot goes out when the control knob trying ReleaseRelighting, hold the control button down longer. If the pilot goes out again, check the thermocouple (below).

Adjust the pilot:

1st Remove control cover all of CAP, the pilot adjustment screw on a combination.

2nd Turn the adjusting screw counterclockwise to increase the flame or clockwise to decrease it. It is set correctly when the flame of the lamp coated thermocouple of 2.1 inches and appear dark blue with a small yellow tip.

Test and replace aThermocouple:

1st Push the Control knob to pilot and the pilot light above.

2nd Loosen the thermocouple mounting a wrench.

3rd Set a multimeter to the DVC (lowest voltage) scale.

4th Clip one meter lead to the end of the next tube of the thermocouple and the other pilots flying mount at the other end of the tube.

5th If the meter shows a reading other than zero, the thermocouple is working. Replace the thermocouple tube.

6thIf there is no reading, you need to clean or replace the following steps 7 to 11 thermocouple

7th Release the knob and switch off the main gas valve on the gas supply line that leads into the burner. Power to the burner on the electric service panel.

8th Remove the thermocouple from its holder.

9th Wipe clean the combined control and install a new thermocouple, tightening by hand, then give it a quarter turn with aWrench.

10th Place the thermocouple in the pilot bracket, being careful to not crimp the hose.

11th Turn off oven and light the pilot (above).
